Endurance Winter Races
Multi day , 8557 County Rd 92, Lake George, CO

Troop CO-0313 (Black Forest) has graciously agreed to host the event. This year will be a slight shift in theme from the Iditarod-style Klondike derby inspired by Ernest Shackleton’s trans-Antarctic expedition to the development and maintenance of a survival camp. The Troop CO-0313 leaders are intentionally incorporating many of the one-off requirements of the nine required Trail Badges, so it promises to be a fun and fruitful event for all.

While more details will follow in the coming days, here is the basic info for your planning purposes:

Location: 8557 County Rd 92, Lake George, Colorado and Forest Rd 250, Lake George, Colorado (these locations are adjacent to one another—activities will occur at the former address on private land and camping will occur nearby off Forest Road 250 at GPS location 38.964444, -105.458188). Specific instructions and directions to follow.

Time: Arrive anytime after 12pm on Friday, Feb 22. Troop check-in is between 5pm and 6pm at the event headquarters (8557 County Rd 92). Camp closing ceremony will be at 11am on Feb 24.

Packing List: Details to follow, but please see attached for personal gear considerations—a final list to follow. As for patrol gear:

• A Klondike sled is not required. If you have one, feel free to bring it, it may be helpful, but if you do not have a sled, or if their is not enough snow, patrol gear will need to be packed and carried for Saturday’s events

• Trailmen will likely need to build a shelter. Expect more details on required items, including a tarp and/or poles

• The ability to prepare meals for a patrol (a unit of approximately 5-8 Trailmen) in a pseudo-survival style setting (without large propane grills, for example). Open fire and small backpacking style stoves are suitable, along with similar alternatives that you might imagine

• Port-a-pottys will be available on site

Cost: Troop CO-0313 is exploring some cost structures. Expect less than $20 per participant, and cost will include dinner Saturday night, Cracker Barrel on Friday and Saturday, and use of port-a-pottys.
